Eventually, their success is in jeopardy after theft and killing cause issues for the girls.

Blood Sisters

The film is reminiscent of The Godfather, Goodfellas, and other mafia films. While those standards are high, King of Boys does deserve its place in great crime film history.

You will not know who to trust and who to look to throughout King of Boys. If you enjoy a good crime drama that has many twists and turns, this film is a great streaming pick.

Both a critical and commercial success, the film received 2 African Movie Academy Awards and won Best African Movie at the African Entertainment USA Awards in 2021.

The story follows three sisters who accidentally find $800,00. As they spend the money, the mafia is on the hunt for the sisters. As you can expect, the girls barely escape their hunters throughout the rest of the film.

The film went on to commercial success and, despite some poor reviews, won Best Comedy of the Year at the Best of Nollywood Awards in 2017.

While not a sequel to 30 Days in Atlanta or 10 Days in SunCity, this film shares the same producer and style as those films. If you like one of them, you’ll probably enjoy them all.

10 Days in SunCity

10 Days in SunCity is an action-packed, hilarious, romantic blockbuster. Ay Makun is back as a producer and lead character for the film and is the third in the Akpos Adventures series.

This romantic comedy sees Akpos and his beauty queen fiance, Bianca, caught up in a plot of love, drama, and action. As Bianca wins the Queen of Nigeria pageant, a wealthy antagonist steps into the picture and makes life difficult for the couple.

Akpos has no choice but to fight for Bianca and their love.

10 Days in SunCity is streaming on TubiTV and Amazon Prime Video.

30 Days in Atlanta

This series is so funny I had to add all three films to the list. 30 Days in Atlanta follows Akpos as he visits Atlanta.

Akpos and his cousin win a 30-day all-expenses-paid trip to Atlanta. The film is a fish out of water story and focuses on Akpos’s smart yet foolish behavior. 

While the film saw limited positive reviews, 30 Days in Atlanta went on to smash all Nigerian box-office records in 2014. Thanks to this success, the film spawned two sequels that are equally hilarious.

Lionheart

Lionheart tackles the problems women need to deal with in a male-dominated world. The film focuses on Adaeze as she steps up and runs her ill father’s business. Along with her Uncle Godswill, the two fight debt and danger from other businesses.

Lionheart was a critical and commercial success gaining praise at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival.

The film was also selected as a Nigerian entry for the 92nd Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film. Unfortunately, Lionheart was disqualified due to most of the dialogue being in English.

A Naija Christmas

The Bling Lagosians

This 2019 drama follows the Holloways, a wealthy Lagos family with a big black cast. Mother Mopelola is ready to celebrate her 51st birthday party, but feuds and infighting are causing problems.

The Bling Lagosians has everything you would want in a family drama. From wedding stress to bankrupt businesses, this film delivers each story in earnest.

Applauded by several critics, The Bling Lagosians found award success as well. The film brought home three awards at the 2020 Best of Nollywood Awards, including Alexx Ekubo for Best Supporting Actor – English.

Breaded Life

Released in 2021, Breaded Life is a romantic comedy that follows the life of a rich and arrogant son. He soon learns lessons the hard way as he falls in love with a poor local bread seller.

As the mother forbids the relationship, the son falls into a world of hardship, gangs, and violence. This sets him on the path to finally confront his mother and profess his love for the bread seller.
