She Shows Generosity To The Poor
Do you actively seek out ways or opportunities to help those who aren’t able to help themselves? The woman of Proverbs 31 did. “She opens her hands to the poor”, which suggests that she had a kind spirit. She physically provided for those in need, doing so with her own resources. She wasn’t stingy or tight-fisted.
Could you show a similar spirit? Remember, to become a Proverbs 31 woman, you’re not required to imitate her actions but her characteristics. There are many ways to show kindness and it does not always have to involve giving monetarily. For example, could you gift your time and effort to someone who’s in dire need of help?
Could you help an elderly or sick person get across the street? Do you know a friend who suffers emotionally because of a death in the family or a divorce? Could you offer words of sincerity and consolation? Kindness is expressed in various ways. Look at your situation and see what and how much you can give.
She’s Hopeful Despite Challenges
The woman of Proverbs 31 was not above problems. Surely, she had her own share of challenges; don’t we all? Despite it all, she was hopeful – “she looks to the future with confidence”. (Proverbs 31: 25)
Do you have a similar disposition when faced with problems regardless of what they are? You’re only human. It’s natural to mope when things aren’t peaches and cream, but do you allow yourself to become defeated or your emotions to run wild? Or, do you actively seek ways to resolve or cope with a difficult situation?
A Proverbs 31 woman is always joyful. Despite challenges, she maintains a warm smile and hopes that things will change.
She Practices Self-Care
It’s easy to forget about self-care when you’re holding down the fort and everything else. Not the capable woman. “Her clothing is of linen and purple wool”, which indicates that she spends time putting herself together. (Proverbs 31: 22)
Purple was an expensive garment to acquire in Bible times. She was not focused on outward appearance, but she spent time and money to ensure she was modest and kempt.
What is your self-care routine like? Are you so caught up with everything else that you’ve forgotten what it’s like to get your hair done or do a pedicure? Sure, you have a lot to cut from your schedule. A capable woman needs to look and present herself as a respectable person.
She Loves And Cherishes A Relationship With God
Her most desirable quality is her spirituality. The woman of Proverbs 31 had a reverential fear of God. She was beautiful and charming, but her love for God exceeded those qualities. Her love for God made it easier to get things done around the home, show kindness, hope, and reliability.
Are you a spiritual woman? Do you make time to communicate with the Creator through prayer and Bible reading? The proverbial woman wasn’t perfect, but she enjoyed a relationship with her God. She likely spent time sharing her faith with her children. Can you imitate her example by hungering for spiritual truths?
