Step Five: Become A Minimalist
Minimalism isn’t just a décor, it’s a lifestyle. A minimalist is a person who realizes that by letting go of excessive stuff, they not only significantly reduce their spending, but they also become much happier.
Yes, this will save money, but it’s not about the money. If you really wanted to save money, you could just clip coupons.
Suddenly, you’ll find yourself more in control of your mind, your body and your decisions. You’ll be able to breathe, maybe for the first time in years.
Step Six: Accomplish Three Things Each Day
Every day, write down three things that you can do in order to get one step closer to your goal.
The steps don’t have to be big. For example, if you want to start your own business, then “run a front-page ad in the New York Times” is too ambitious, but “create business cards” is a great first step. If you’re too busy to accomplish three small steps a day, then pursue three medium-sized steps for the week.
Don’t be discouraged. Successful people didn’t become successful overnight. They took a lot of small steps, got better over time and eventually achieved their dreams.
Step Seven: Stay Focused and Optimistic
Leaving the rat race isn’t easy. If it were, then everyone would have done it already.
When you’re discouraged, reread your list of reasons for wanting to leave the rat race. Find friends who are also trying to do this, and maybe even your office romance. Create a vision board for the life that you want to live, and add to it daily. Every morning make a list of three things that you’re grateful for, and every night make a list of three things that you accomplished. When you look back at past lists, you’ll realize how many blessings you have and how much you’ve achieved.
Step Eight: Be Healthy
Here’s a secret. You don’t have to achieve all of your dreams before you feel healthy and happy. In fact, if you carry your bad habits over into your new life, you’ll find yourself just as stressed and unhappy as you were at your 9-5.
