Even the organic natural hair products at your favorite beauty supply store are often full of harmful chemicals such as sulfates and parabens that will damage your hair. Plus, they’re way too expensive! If you want to save money and improve the health of your hair, consider making your own natural hair care products yourself.
1. NenoNatural’s Super-Clarifying Baking Soda Shampoo
Over time, especially if you’re a proud product junkie, your hair will get thick with build-up. To strip away all of the dirt, dust, skin cells and old product, use this baking soda shampoo every few weeks.
2 tablespoons of baking soda
1 cup of warm water
Mix the baking soda into the water until it dissolves, then work the mixture throughout your hair and scalp. Massage your scalp to make sure that you clean it completely. The baking soda may make your hair brittle, so apply a very strong conditioner or deep conditioner afterward.
2. BlackNaps’ Ginger Dandruff-Blasting Shampoo
If your scalp is particularly dry and flaky, regular shampoos aren’t enough. If you wash your hair and find white flakes a few days (or even hours!) later, then try this simple but potent ginger mix.
1 tablespoon of grated ginger root
1 teaspoon of organic sesame oil
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
Stir the root into the sesame oil and add a splash of lemon juice. Work this mixture into your scalp, massaging vigorously, and then rinse it out after 30 minutes OR let it dry and then shampoo your hair as normal. Repeat three times a week until your dandruff has cleared.
3. CurlyConundrum’s Peppermint-Infused Pre-Poo
To condition and untangle your hair before you wash it (which reduces breakage), scrub on this fresh pre-poo thirty minutes before you wash your hair.
2 tablespoons of coconut oil
10 drops of peppermint oil
The coconut oil will moisturize and revitalize your strands, while the peppermint oil will nourish your scalp and speed up hair growth. Simply mix the coconut oil and the peppermint oil together, rub the mixture onto your hands, and work it through your hair. Start by rubbing your scalp and then move from roots to ends. This also works as an overnight deep conditioner!
